Orville Redenbacher has released a new line of gourmet popcorn. They have a ‘fresh guarantee’ and are 100% whole grain with 0 trans fats. Each bag contains 165 grams of popcorn. At the Foodbeat headquarters we love spicy foods, so we chose the White Cheddar Chipotle to try.
The Visuals
The bag itself is red and gold, which really pops. It’s made from a thick material that does not crinkle obnoxiously. (I’m looking at you, sunchips!) The popcorn is large and fluffy, with a light yellow/orange coating and flecks of spice.
The Smell
It smells like normal popcorn, with a hint of cheese.
The Taste
At first bite you get a cheesy buttery flavor. It reminds me of Parmesan cheese rather than cheddar. As you eat you get the smoky spicy of the chipotle. You’re left with a nice light burning that builds if you continue to eat. The flavors are both bold and subtle and I would have preferred them to kick it up a notch.
Nutritional Facts
This is a very low calorie snack. For every 50 grams serving, or 4 cups, there are only 260 calories. It is high in fat though, with 14 grams. It is also high in salt, with 560 mg. The ingredients are great though. Everything is very natural, with corn, oil, and seasoning at the top. The product contains no MSG.
Final Verdict
The texture was really fuffy and crisp without any hint of staleness. However, the flavors were not extreme enough for any of us at Foodbeat to purchase again. If we want a snack, we want a ton of flavor.
