By popular demand, we’re reviewing another Dorito’s product. This time it’s the Smoky Chipotle flavor. Some reviews have said that this product lacks a punch, and can taste stale. I’m here to find out.
The Visuals
The chips are large and thick. They are totally coated in flavorful dust that gives them the classic red Doritos color.
The Smell
I was disappointed in the smell. When opening the bag, all I could smell was the classic Doritos aroma, which is light and savory.
The Taste
I am not a big fan of the normal Doritos products, nor did I like the dill pickle flavor chips. I find Doritos keep their spices tame, and I get disappointed with what they call “intense”. This being said, I found this smoky chipotle type fantastic. Every chip was covered in a delicious spicy coating. At first you get a sweet paprika taste. The initial flavor is very similar to the sweet barbecue potato chips everyone is familiar with.
The pepper flavor changes to a smoky background. It is subtle, without overpowering the other tastes. Finally, you get the heat. It leaves your mouth tingling without burning, however if you don’t like spicy food this might be too hot for you. I adore fiery food and found this just right.
Nutritional Facts
An 80-gram bag of these chips pack a 400-calorie punch. Unsurprisingly, they are very unhealthy. Eating the whole snack bag will set you back with 19g of fat, 460mg of salt, and 54g of carbs. On the positive side, Doritos makes their chips with barley flour, which gives 4g of fiber.
These chips are sweetened with three types of sugars: sucralose, white sugar, and brown sugar. The sucralose is a worrying product, but it is advertised in large letters on the front of the bag. Another ingredient people may be uncomfortable with is the inclusion of MSG in the chips.
The Final Results
I really enjoyed this Doritos product and I can understand why people are raving about it. I did not find any stale texture with the chips, and I can only infer that this was caused by a faulty batch. I thoroughly enjoyed this product.
