The Skill Drill
The first challenge of this episode was to cook in a school cafeteria for 30 second grade students. They each had to replicate a dish by their head Chef.
The Red Team dish was chicken tacos with Chef Anne. The Blue Team dish was chicken quesadillas with Chef Bobby. In addition, the four competitors had to make a unique vegetable side dish that brought together both healthy and fun. It would be the thirty kids who would decide their favorite dishes and pick the winners.
The winning person for the Blue Team was Vinnie Caligiuri who, although was a mess in the kitchen, had the preferred meal chosen by the children. The winner for the Red Team was Kelly Powers, who barely edged ahead of David Shelton.
The Main Dish Challenge
The elimination challenge was for the competitors to cook for their family. The testing was not so simple, as the family members had to do a blind taste test and compare each teams dishes. They would pick their favorite and ultimately decide who would go home. This meant that they could be eliminating their loved one.
On Chef Anne’s Red Team, Kelly battled her fishy demons and made a seafood platter, with lobster and shrimp. Her husband was a big fan of shellfish but could never have it at home because of Kelly’s poor cooking. David made his vegan wife a giant stuffed pork chop, but paid poor attention to Chef Anne’s recommendations in the kitchen.
On Chef Bobby’s Blue Team, Vinnie prepared his son a massive steak. Melissa chose to go more elegant for her husband with a beautifully plated pork tenderloin dish.
As a surprise, all taste testing family members chose their favorites and they correctly matched the chefs that cooked them.
Results
The winner for Chef Anne Burrell’s red team was Kelly Powers and David Shelton was eliminated for not listening to Anne.
The winner for Chef Bobby Flay’s blue team was Vinnie Caligirui and Melissa Rhodes was sent home.
