This is the second episode of the much-anticipated Worst Cooks of America Season 3. Last week the contestants were chosen and learned how to fry eggs with a breakfast dish. Each week has consecutively harder challenges, but just about everything is too difficult for the competitors at the moment.
The contestants woke up to a note asking them to head to Chinatown to “stretch” their abilities. Tiffany, the celebrity of the group, was extra worried about this experience because as she put it, “the Chinese do some crazy stuff with their food.”
The challenge was actually quite difficult. The chefs would have to throw their own Asian noodles by hand. This is quite the task for even the most experienced chef. However, before they had the opportunity to attempt this, chef Anne introduced them to knife skills. Chef knives are amazingly sharp and watching this was like a horror movie – you were seriously waiting the whole time for someone to cut their finger off. Anne showed them how to julienne and chiffonade. Bobby showed them how to cut green onion on a bias, and introduced them to the idea of using tofu.
Each team had to prepare Asian style dishes. Anne’s team had a fried cabbage noodle dish, and Bobby had a red curry coconut noodle dish. Erica was fun to watch as she massacred her tofu, which she calls “toofoo”. She and Bobbi had a pronunciation battle on what the real word is.
Winner for the blue team was Vinnie, and the bottom was Sherril. The winner for the red team was Bob, and the bottom was Rachel.
The main dish challenge was to make a classic meatball. Each contestant created a meatball from a different country and would battle head to head against a challenger from the other team. They all had to grind their own meat. They had 60 minutes to compete the challenge.
Tiffany had a major issue dealing with raw, unprocessed meat. Watching Rachel stick her hand in the meat grinder was another throw back to the horror show earlier this episode. Luckily, nothing happened. Sarina garnished her otherwise good dish with over $100 of saffron.
This week’s overall winner for the red team was Dorothy, and Rachel was eliminated. The blue team’s winner was Vinnie, and the one eliminated was Sherril.
Next week has the competitors battling with intense flavors and fire. It should be very exciting.
