V8, the popular fruit and vegetable drink brand owned by Campbell Soup Company, has announced a series of new product offerings aimed at giving consumers a few new ways to get their daily intake of vegetables in drink form. V8 hopes to tap into a potential new market of health-conscious customers who are looking for either a sparkling beverage or a quick energy boost but would prefer to stay away from the sugary options that make up almost all of the existing options on the marketplace.

The new juice drinks, launching under the name V8 V-Fusion, come in the form of sparkling juice blends in such varieties as Tangerine Raspberry, Black Cherry Pomegranate and Strawberry Lemonade. The big thing that V8 is hoping to stand behind with these juice products is that they contain only 50 calories, which will surely attract a segment of the market looking for low-calorie drink options. All three of the V-Fusion drinks have zero added sugar, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

A separate line of fruit juice energy drinks will be launched under the V8 V-Fusion + Energy brand and will be available in two flavors: Pomegranate Blueberry and Peach Mango. The drinks will also contain only 50 calories per 80-ounce can and have no added sugar, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

Foodbeat’s Take: Excellent strategic move by V8, but we will pass full judgment after we have had a chance to taste the products. With the popularity of soft drinks and sugary drinks plummeting over the last few years, it will be interesting to see how consumers react to a healthier alternative that gives them the carbonated sensation they are used to from regular soda. On the energy drink side, I can definitely see a marketplace for a “healthier” energy beverage but it will ultimately come down to how the product tastes. We will be sure to keep an eye on the new V8 V-Fusion product launch over the coming months!
