Tyson Foods (NYSE: TSN) has announced a product recall for a cooked pizza topping due to the discovery of an unmarked allergen that was previously undeclared in the product. The pizza topping is sold in 10-pound cartons containing two smaller 5-pound packages. The recall affects product that is labeled as “Arrezzio-Cooked Beef Topping Manzo Cotto Per Pizza” and that carries a production date of January 12, 2012.
According to the public statement by Tyson, the pizza topping product contains beef but instead contains pork, which also contains a soy product which is the cause of concern as soy is a known allergen. Aside from that, this poses a huge problem for consumers who do not consume pork for a variety of reasons.
Consumers with questions about this Tyson recall should contact Tyson Consumer Relations at 866-328-3156. Any customers who have consumed this product that may be concerned about an allergic reaction should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
