The Elimination Challenge

There would be no quickfire challenge this week as the elimination challenge needed too much time. The chefs would be catering a 200 person wedding for Jay and Christine whom have had serious issues when it came to their wedding plans. Firstly their maid of honor passed away suddenly, and then their venue went out of business. What the two love birds needed was a drama free wedding party, but the chefs made sure that didn’t happen.

The chefs would be working as one team and had 24 hours to prepare for the wedding. They would also be creating a wedding cake in the allotted time. Jay and Christine gave some helpful hints on what they wanted to see. They wanted the food to represent their Filipino heritage, and they wanted an awesome wedding cake.

Art Smith volunteered to make the wedding cake because he had made a number in the past. He name dropped a number of times this episode which was funny because it’s Top Chef Masters. All of the chefs are famous!

Debbie had chosen to make a mango and papaya salad but the store they went to didn’t sell any. She had to come up with a totally new dish and create a grilled cabbage salad instead.

The wedding cake ended up being a real disaster. The kitchen was way too hot to build the cake and the icing melted. The cake leaned and eventually collapsed. All the chefs helped rebuild it but it never looked that great to begin with. The bride took it all with good humor but you could see the stress on every ones faces.

The winner this episode was Patricia Yeo for her ceviche. She won $10,000 for her charity. The loser was Debbie Gold for her uninspired salad. She took the loss graciously and it will be sad to see her go.
