What a week for Starbucks! The world’s largest coffee chain opened the doors to their first juice bar in Bellevue, Washington and now, just three days later, they’re announcing the arrival of their very own line of high-end energy drinks.
Starbucks Refreshers are already available in select grocery and retail stores and will be quickly making their way into stores all across North America very soon. The fresh new drinks come in three tasty flavors: raspberry pomegranate, orange melon and strawberry lemonade.
The delicious drinks are available in 12-ounce cans and are made with fruit juices and green coffee extract. Each can contains 60 calories.
It’s no wonder the popular chain is expanding into energy drinks – that particular sector of the beverage market is up 16 percent from last year.
Annie Young-Scrivner, global chief marketing officer for Starbucks and president of Tazo Tea, is confident that the drinks will be a huge hit with consumers. “If anyone was going to innovate in coffee while delivering on an untapped energy and refreshment need state, it would be Starbucks,” she said in this week’s press release.
And, while many would agree that Starbucks is the ideal company to release a new line of energy drinks, they will be facing tough competition with consumers. Energy drink empire Red Bull also announced this week that it will be launching a new line of zero-calorie energy drinks - a new collection of drinks they expect to be a huge hit with customers as well.
Starbucks Refreshers will be available at 160,000 locations by the end of April.
