Marilyn Hagerty, a longtime columnist for the Grand Forks Herald in Grand Forks, North Dakota, recently had her innocuous review of a local Olive Garden restaurant explode in popularity on the Internet.
After ordering chicken Alfredo and a glass of water, Hagerty wrote a glowing report on the quality of the restaurant’s food and its comforting décor. Within days, the review had earned over 100,000 hits on the newspaper’s website, and had been picked up by multiple other sources.
The Grand Forks, North Dakota Olive Garden location opened towards the end of January, 2012, and has since earned steady business from local clientele. According to restaurant management, Hagerty’s review – which has been dubbed by some as the “greatest restaurant review ever written” – has yet to urge more customers to visit the location. Business has been steady since the restaurant launched operations at the location.
