McDonald’s has let slip that the annual return of the McRib sandwich will be delayed this year. A leaked memo from McDonald’s revealed that they will be deliberately holding back the release of the sandwich. Rather than have it for sale earlier this year, they will wait until the end of December and only sell it for a few short weeks. This news comes as shock to lovers of the sandwich. A spokesperson for McDonald’s has said they “cannot comment on leaked documents, information.”
The McRib is one of the most popular items on McDonald’s menu. Traditionally it was only available when pork prices were low, making it a one in a while treat. In the past few years the popularity of the McRib has skyrocketed, making it a “cult” favorite. By restricting the sale of the sandwiches, McDonald’s aims to hype up the release and procure more purchases. Unfortunately for McDonald’s, the leaked memo may backfire with angry fans.
