We had the chance to talk with fan favorite and winner of MasterChef, Christina Ha. She is an amazing person with passion and great fortitude. I know I’ll be getting her cookbook when it comes out! You can find Christine Ha online on her facebook at facebook.com/MC3Christine, her twitter at twitter.com/MC3Christine, and her personal blog at theblindcook.com/

FoodBeat: How did you come up with your menu for the finale?

Christine Ha: I knew I wanted to stick to what I know. I had done quite a number of Asian dishes on the show and I wanted to stay with this style. Looking back on my performances on the show, I was always judged best when I did Asian food. My entrée was a tribute to my mother. She cooked this pork belly dish often and I knew I wanted to highlight it. I worked the other courses around this rich main course.

FoodBeat: Did everything turn out how you wanted it?

Christine Ha: Nothing ever turns out how you want on the show. I had a lot of trouble with the salad actually. There were equipment failures and the cucumbers didn’t come out the texture I wanted. We’re our own worst critics though. It all came together in the end and there’s no use having regrets.

FoodBeat: What was it like when they called your name as the winner?

Christine Ha: It was the most overwhelming experience I’ve ever had. I was shocked for 48 hours! It didn’t sink in for quite some time. It was unreal and unbelievable. I conquered so many people to get to the top spot. I had so much joy at winning, but I was also humbled. I’m so grateful for the opportunity.

FoodBeat: What did winning MasterChef mean for you?

Christine Ha: I’m hoping that it will open some doors of opportunity. I’d love to meet with investors for my gastropub dream. I also want to keep writing and combine it with my love of food. I love food and I love cooking! Combining both of those passions would be great.
