The Mystery Box Challenge
The final Mystery Box challenge had the secret ingredient of their cookbooks! The winner of MasterChef will get their very own cookbooks and this challenge was centered around the types of recipes they would include inside. The chefs had any ingredients they wanted to make their signature dish that would be included in their cookbooks. Christine made a scallop noodle dish and it looked beautiful. Becky made a fish soup but her portions were too small and the fish was overcooked. Josh made a chicken curry that the judges loved.
The judges ranked the dishes from worst to first- Becky, Josh, and Christine. Christine had a massive reward for the next challenge.
All three chefs were brought into the pantry for the introduction of the elimination challenge. The theme of this challenge was “legs”. The chefs had to each make a dish using the leg meat of their chosen animals. As Christine won, she got to choose first and went with chicken legs. Josh chose second with lamb legs. Becky was last and was stuck with frogs legs.
Christine made a Southern style fried chicken with creamed kale. Josh made lamb yucca fritters. Becky made butter fried frogs legs with salad.
The judges loved Christine’s chicken but the kale was too creamy. It looked a bit like soup. The judges thought Josh’s dish was very unique and delicious, but it didn’t highlight the lamb ingredient. The judges thought that Becky’s frogs legs were good, but she had a mushy potato soaked in wine.
Josh was the first to go through to the final two. He has really been showing his passion for cooking and his use of spices is extraordinary. The final chef in the final two was… Christine! It was a close call because both messed up their dishes.
It wasn’t all sad because Gordon Ramsay told Becky that she was an amazing chef. He offered her a working position at any of his many restaurants, including in France and England. That might have been a bigger reward for her than winning the show.
What do you think of the final two?
