After almost a month of the Olympics on television, MasterChef is back! This episode comes in with a recap of who is still on the show: Monti, Christine, Becky, Josh, David, and Frank. All the final chefs have had their ups and downs. Certainly they are all the top of the pack and they all deserve to be there.

The winners of the last episode (if you can even remember that far back!) were Becky and Frank. The task was for the competitors to cook in a real restaurant. They had to take over the kitchen of the Hatfield’s, a Michelin Star winning restaurant. Becky and Frank had to choose teams and it ended up women vs men. Christine was picked first which was a great feeling for her. Because of her disability, Christine is normally picked last. Becky wanted her first because of Christine’s wicked palate. Every sauce was passed to her for approval.

The men’s team started very slow with Josh unable to fry bread. It took them an entire hour to get the first appetizers out. Meanwhile the girl’s team worked fast and efficiently. The results of the challenge would be based on a number of factors. The customers filled out surveys, the owners taste tested each teams food, and the judges would rate their actions in the kitchen.

The owners tasting was a real mess. The men’s team delivered their food ten minutes after the girls were ready. That meant their food sat around over cooking. The winning team of this challenge were the women! It was close but their fast service won the judges over.

Frank had the opportunity to save one of his team members and have them skip the elimination test. He said he would pick Josh but ended up choosing himself. A smart move but cold- very cold.

Josh and David had a very difficult elimination challenge. They had to cook filet steaks perfectly in three different ways- rare, medium rare, and well done. David is a really rustic cook who has a lot of experience cooking steak. Read our interview with him to learn more about David’s cooking style.

Josh’s steaks came out perfectly rare, medium instead of medium rare, and finally medium instead of well done.

David’s steaks came out medium rare instead of rare, medium/medium well instead of medium rare, and finally medium/medium well instead of well done.

It was David who was eliminated for his steaks. It is sad to see him go! Graham Elliot told him that David will definitely have a job working in one of his kitchens.

Did David deserve to go home?
