The third episode of Masterchef 2012 has the final contestants chosen and a drastic reduction in their numbers. Over half of the current competitors would be heading home.
The Judges
The panel of judges for Masterchef are Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Graham Elliot. Each represents a different view on what would make a master chef.
The prizes for this season of Masterchef are a cash prize of $250,000 and the title of Masterchef. The winner will also receive their very own cookbooks to be published and placed in bookshops around the country.
The Contestants
This was the third episode of the season dedicated to finding the final competitors. 100 home cooks had been brought to cook their dish before the judges and convince them to be given a white apron.
The Competition
The first few minutes of this episode were devoted to finding the last of the contestants. With only a few let in, the show quickly turned into the first competition. Those cooks who have received their white aprons so far were led into the challenge kitchen. Set in a giant warehouse, each cook had their own station and giant pantry to use.
The cooking challenge everyone had to complete was how to use ground beef. It is an international ingredient that can be found in almost every culture. The contestants had an hour to impress the judges.
After the challenge, the contestants were divided into three teams. Two groups of 12 were brought to the front and one group was left at their station. The first group of 12 were told that they were the top of the pack and all went on and the other 12 were sent home. The last group who were left in the kitchen were informed that the judges were undecided in the decision. The judges would take a closer look at their dishes and make their decisions based on that.
Monti Carlo was included in the undecided category. She created a beef pastry roll that the judges loved. The judges promised her that her food journey would continue and she has a chance to become Masterchef. Christine did not have any issue being blind in the kitchen. She had a helper who would get ingredients as directed. She received no assistance chopping or cooking her dishes. She was given her white apron and will continue her journey.
Tomorrow on Masterchef we find out the final 18 contestants. What do you think of the lineup so far?
