Mystery Box Challenge
The Mystery Box this week had a live animal. It was a tank filled with live prawns. Monti had a hard time dispatching them because they were staring at her with their little brown eyes. As Gordon came by her station, she splashed him from head to toe as she tried to take her prawns out of the tank.
The three top competitors today were Becky, Christine, and David. This was Becky’s fifth time on the top which is a new record in MasterChef history. She made a Spanish saffron dish. Christine made a pineapple soup dish and the judges said she was back at the top again. David made a ceviche, which is a raw dish that is cured with citrus. The judges loved it and said it was his best dish yet. It was David who won this challenge and he received a benefit in the next challenge.
Elimination Challenge
David’s benefit was two fold. First he would pick the ingredient that everyone would be using. It was a dessert challenge and the three ingredients were savory. He was able to choose from bacon, beets, and corn. He chose corn and then received the second part of his reward. The judges showed him three examples of how to use corn in a dessert. He chose to replicate a rice corn pudding.
David had first crack at the pantry and forgot a major component of his dish- the rice! David, how could you forget the rice?? We’ll find out what he has to say in his weekly behind the scenes recap.
Monti did an amazing dessert with a corn souffle. It is a very difficult dish to master but she did a great job. No one can say she isn’t a contender any more.
The three people on the bottom for this elimination challenge were David, Josh, and Felix. The winning dishes were Frank and Becky, who will be captains next week.
Josh had the least bad of the three bottom dishes and he was safe. It was between David and Felix and they both did a horrendous job. It was Felix who was eliminated this week.
