The Mystery Box Challenge
The secret ingredient this week was Paula Deen! She would be the theme for both the ingredients and the cooking techniques. She introduced the real mystery box. It was filled with a whole chicken, okra, cream cheese, green tomato, and more. Frankie went for a Southern mix up- classic south ingredients in an Italian style. David really brought his game this episode with a beautiful red pepper grits dish. The judges said he had amazing flavor. Becky was also in the top, but that’s pretty normal now.
The winner was decided to be Frankie.
The Elimination Challenge
Frankie won a few rewards for his Mystery Box meal. First he received immunity. The judges then revealed the theme for the elimination challenge. The remaining cooks had to prepare a beautiful sushi plate. Frank’s other reward was to pick pairs for the challenge.
The contestants had 60 minutes and had to work in partners through the time. Every 10 minutes, the cook would switch with their partner as only one of them could cook at a time.
Frank chose the teams very wisely. Becky was his biggest threat so he paired her with David. David cooks very home style food and they both were not knowledgeable about sushi. He paired Christine with Stacey and while Christine knew a lot about sushi, Stacey had to prepare most of it. Lastly, he paired Monti with Felix. Felix makes sushi all the time and Monti followed her direction the whole way.
Stacey and Christine were very slow because it takes Christine longer to work blind in the kitchen. She did prepare the sushi rice perfectly. Stacey was rushing to catch up with the other teams but they never recovered.
Felix and Monti worked beautifully together. Monti took care of the tempura and Felix did all the sushi.
David and Becky had a hard time because Becky was very concerned that they would be the bottom. Becky wanted to make sure that David was doing a worse job than her so she could stay in the competition.
It was Christine and Stacey who were in the bottom because they didn’t get all their items finished. Stacey was sent home.
