The Mystery Box Challenge
The secret ingredients in the Mystery Box Challenge this week were a whole rabbit, purple Brussels sprouts, forbidden rice, ramps, and more. There was an additional secret this week because a guest chef would be cooking with the group. The idea was that the cooks could see what a Top Chef would do with the ingredients. As it turned out, it would be Graham Elliot who would cook. The cooks were able to come and taste what he made so they could learn.
Everyone actually did a great job. Rabbit is a difficult ingredient because of how lean it is. Cowboy Mike did a beautiful rabbit leg and was in the top three. Becky Reams was the overall winner and she celebrated a little too hard.
The Elimination Challenge
Becky Reams reward was being able to choose the cooking technique the other competitors would use on the Elimination Challenge. She did not receive immunity. Joe Bastianich revealed a pizza stone. It heats up much hotter than a conventional oven can and so you can make a really nice pizza crust with it. Graham Elliot revealed a wok. Gordon Ramsay revealed a deep fat fryer. Becky was told that she could pick one device for her to use, and a different one for the other competitors. She chose the deep fat fryer for herself and the pizza stone for everyone else.
The pizza stone was probably the most difficult tool out of the three and many people had issues with it. Cowboy Mike Hill could not remember the recipe for pizza dough so he thought that baking lobster tail on the stone was a better option. David Martinez also had trouble by using lobster too. The last person on the bottom was Tanya Noble. She wasn’t thinking and served raw dough and raw whole garlic. Tali Clavijo was barely safe.
Cowboy Mike Hill was eliminated. It was tough because he was in the top for the Mystery Box Challenge. Tanya Noble was also let go, and she had been doing so well lately too.
