Popular Contestant David Martinez Talks MasterChef 2012 Episode 12:
Cowboys Cowboys everywhere. What the hell am I doing here I thought, and who is that off in the distance kicking up dust. The last time I saw a cowboy lets just say we both had very bruised egos and then some. Oh that dust bowl is Gordon and Joe. Where’s Graham? Pause, here’s the part where things get iffy, I knew he would be on Asses, I just knew it, why, its just the nature of the beast I guess. In any case he comes rolling up and I couldn’t be any more excited. The judges say we will split into teams and feed 101 cowboys. First team to 51 ones.
We start picking teams and to my surprise I am picked by Monti, up to this point her and I didn’t work well. We really just didn’t, we are friends, but we set a bad precedent of working together during the hotel challenge. I was surprised but happy. We get to choose a starch, protein, and vegetable. Wait what’s this, a big announcement. Christine whispers in my ear, they’re switching captains, oh are they. Dang it she is always right. I will work under Frank now. I feel this works well for me because I like Frank, he is a pretty solid leader and I really enjoy his friendship.
We get to work and cook garlic mashed potatoes, NY strip, and corn. This will all have some BBQ sauce with it. The cowboys start voting and we are pulling so far ahead. The red team comes back but in the end BOOM, we win by a margin. I was so elated.
We go back to the MasteChef kitchen and the Red Team will make eggs. Eggs? Of all things, I can cook and egg like crazy. I would have killed to be in this pressure test. They get to cooking and only have 20 minutes. One omelet, one sunny side up, one soft boiled, one poached. What a sight to see as Becky, Josh, and Monti cook up these eggs. The time ends and judging begin. They all had minor mistakes. An egg seems so simple but can get so complicated. In the end Josh went home. I was upset, disappointed, and genuinely sad to see him go. See TV doesn’t show that at this stage in the competition we all became really close. We were all very upset.
