Jamie Oliver is using his celebrity status to help draw awareness to food and nutrition education and has just announced the first Food Revolution Day, happening May 19, 2012.
According to the official website, “Food Revolution Day on 19 May is a chance for people who love food to come together to share information, talents and resources; to pass on their knowledge and highlight the world’s food issues.” The goal of the project is “to inspire change in people’s food habits and to promote the mission for better food and education for everyone.”
The movement has already drawn the attention of thousands of families all over the world and is expected to become a part of school programs, businesses and restaurants around the globe.
On the website, Jamie asks the question “Why have a Day of Action?” He answers that question by revealing that “worldwide obesity has more than doubled since 1980″ and that “every year over 5 million people die from obesity or diet-related diseases.”
In addition to the website, where visitors can learn more about Food Revolution Day, the project also has it’s own Pinterest board on Jamies Food Revolution Pinterest page. On the Food Revolution Pinterest page, you can view food and nutrition statistics, lunch ideas for children, cool food infographics and learn more about who’s participating in Food Revolution Day.
Will you be joining the festivities on May 19th?
