Ground Beef Recall 2012: E. Coli Sparks XL Foods Recall

Over 26 different ground beef products from XL Foods have been recalled in Canada due to a possible E. coli contamination. As of yet there is no reported cause for the recall, but no consumers have reported getting ill from eating the contaminated products. The list of products recalled continues to grow. Eating food contaminated with E. coli can cause life threatening symptoms. These range from stomach pain, to bloody diarrhea, to seizures and finally kidney damage. In those with other illnesses, this could be fatal. The recalled products are:

 

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are asked to return them to the store of purchase, or throw them out. Those products which may be contaminated will not look spoiled. For more information, consumers are asked to contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 1-800-442-2342 or 1-800-465-7735. The lines are open between 8 am to 8 pm Eastern Standard Time.
