This week was the premier episode of Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition 2012. The candidate who was battling obesity this week was Tony. His starting weight was a massive 398 lbs. He is a very tall man and held his weight well. Unfortunately for him, holding that much excess weight has serious health concerns.
Tony started this journey one full year before his 50th birthday. His weight was not his only issue, but it looked like a manifestation of his personal problems. He had a son of 28, Marcus, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. While filming his first workout, Tony received a call from the hospital with an emergency. Marcus was told that he had a maximum of three years left to live. Unfortunately, Marcus passed away a few months later. It was very tearful and sad.
Tony’s personal problems did not end there. The women in Tony’s life were the most interesting part of this episode. When we first met him, he was engaged with a woman named Leslie. They broke up and this left Tony homeless for a number of days. Tony has an ex-wife named Cherry, with whom he had Marcus. He broke up with Leslie, and a few short months later he met Deana. His personal trainer, Chris Powell, warned Tony about starting a new relationship so soon after his devastating losses. Tony did not take this advice however, and he was engaged to Deana before the end of the episode. The surprise was the posting by his ex-girlfriend Diana Gray online. Read her comments here. She says that they dated previously and he cheated on her. For those confused by all his women, here’s how it breaks down:
Cherry: ex-wife and mother of his late son Marcus
Diana: ex-girlfriend who broke up with him due to his cheating and lying ways
Leslie: ex-fiancé who left him homeless after kicking him out of their house
Deana: his current fiancé after only a few months of knowing each other
My conclusion from this is that Tony is a player! Being morbidly obese did not stop him from meeting a lot of women. Deana should be careful because his previous history with women is poor.
Look for my full recap of this episode tomorrow morning. This show was full of juicy drama but also fantastic weight loss results.
