This week we watched Sally lose 138 pounds on Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition 2012. Sally is a 45 year old wife and mother. She was athletic for most of her life until a tragic accident. She blew her knee out and had invasive surgery. Sally spent an entire year in a wheel chair and lost the confidence to work out. Her weight gain became real to her when Sally was watching football and all the huge men weighed less than her. Sally contacted Chris Powell to help her become athletic again.

The First Phase

On Sally’s first weigh in we find out she was 335 pounds. While that seems low considering the huge numbers of the past few episodes, Sally had over 50% body fat. Her weight was slowly killing her and she needed to do something about it. Chris gave her the goal of losing 85 pounds this phase. If she was successful, her reward would be getting a full makeover and shopping spree. Sally had a hard time sticking to the diet and found herself drinking full sugar soda too often. She only managed to lose 77 pounds and weighed in at 258 pounds.

The Second Phase

Sally’s goal for this phase was to lose 50 pounds. After Chris Powell left Sally’s house in this phase, she totally fell of track. Part of the problem was that Sally’s husband could not understand the journey she was going through. He kept the full fat, full sugar foods in the house and Sally ended up sabotaging herself. Chris came back for a surprise visit and found out that Sally had gained 5 pounds! Chris paid for Sally to visit a therapist and delve deeper into her food problems. She weighed in at the end of this phase at 238 pounds, 30 pounds off her goal. Sally still got her reward this phase by surfing with Laird Hamilton.

The Final Phase

Chris invited Sally to his home for a two week boot camp with his wife, Heidi. Heidi is a “pit bull” and forced Sally to confront her fears. A big issue was that Sally was still afraid of injuring her knee. The doctors told her that it wasn’t possible after a decade, but her mind forced her to be too careful. Heidi gave her some real pressure and knocked Sally out of her comfortable zone.

On her reveal, sally had to be under 200 pounds to be accepted for skin surgery. She came in at 197 pounds! She was slow and steady in her weight loss and while she didn’t make any of the goal weights except the last, she was still a winner.
