After a number of weeks off the air, Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition 2012 is back. This episode was all about Mike, a 28 year old man from Tarpon Springs, Florida. The reason for him contacting Chris Powell was that he had never dated a woman before. He wanted to move on and start a serious relationship before he got too old.
Chris weighed him in at 493 lbs. and asked him to lose half his body weight in 365 days. His first goal was to lose 120 lbs. in 90 days. If he reached that weight, is reward was to attend dating classes with a match maker and go on a speed dating evening. The speed dating went really well considering Mike had no idea what he was doing. Secretly the women were rating him on three categories: charm, humor, and sex appeal. He scored 7.8 on charm and I totally agree. He’s a cutie patootie! He has a genuineness about him that is very attractive. He also scored really high on humor with 7.4. The girls only had 3 minutes with him and humor can take a long time to come out in conversation. The fact that the women noticed it was a great sign that he would have a successful love life. The last rating with sex appeal was obviously going to be low. He hit a low 3 but he expected a low number there. He swore to come back at the end of the year and change that number.
It turned out that he didn’t need the match maker, as he found a girlfriend himself. She was very supportive through the Mike’s entire journey. She would wake up early and go to the gym with him. Chris thought that she made Mike push to 100% and that he could not have done it without her.
At Mike’s reveal we learned that he had lost 255 lbs. to now weight 238 lbs. Mike looked amazing but the best thing was that you could see his confidence. His family had pledged to lose 500 lbs collectively, to support Mike and they weighed in at a 442 lbs. loss.
It was amazing to see how much Mike grew as a person as he lost the weight. Both Mike and his family did fantastic jobs and should be very proud of themselves.
