This week in Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition 2012, we saw Michael transform from an ugly ducking into a babe magnet. In his first weigh in we
The First Phase
On Mike’s first weigh in we find out his is a staggering 493 lbs. He is 28 years old and contacted Chris Powell because he had never had a girlfriend. At the end of his weight loss journey, he hoped that he would have the self confidence to find the girl of his dreams. The first phase of his journey was to lose 120 lbs. in three months. While that seems outrageous, he is so big it’s possible. On his first work out with Chris, Mike put only 75% into his efforts. Chris Powell walked out, frustrated at Mike’s performance. Chris let Mike stew in his room for a few hours before coming back and telling him not to quit. The fright of losing this amazing opportunity put the drive back in Mike and he gave 110% of effort.
The Second Phase
The reward for completing the first phase was for Mike to attend dating classes. It really helped him gain self confidence with the ladies because before we know it, he has a serious girlfriend! He started spending more time with friends and less working out and his second weigh in was a disappointment. He was 15 lbs off his goal. The second phase ended with an Olympic triathlon. Not having met his goals, Mike was very concerned about his finish time. He had a personal goal at 6 hours, but Chris told him he could do it at 5. Mike had never run for training- just walking and jogging. A triathlon is comprised of three parts: swimming, biking, and running. Mike was risking a lot by not being comfortable running. As it turned out, Micheal blew everyone away by making it in 4 hours 20 minutes. He gave his all and reached a great success.
The Final Phase
Having just had his major success with the triathlon, Mike worked his buns off on the final phase. His girlfriend was a major support for him, waking up and going to the gym with him in the wee hours of the morning. Chris Powell gave her a lot of credit for his success, saying without her he wouldn’t have made it. Mike’s family also played a huge role in his weight loss. They pooled together and vowed to lose 500 lbs jointly. In the end they lost 442 lbs and Mike lost 255 lbs.
