Alexis Wholesale Inc is recalling 6,210 pounds of chorizo sausage. The sausage has a mislabeling problem where MSG was not declared on the packaging. MSG, or monosodium glutamate is a naturally occurring savory flavor additive that, in large amounts, has health risks. There are a small percentage of the population that can have allergic reactions to MSG and should avoid it. The products recalled are:

  • 10 pound boxes of sausage
  • Called “Salvadorian Brand Chorizo”
  • Establishment number of “EST.44823″
  • Produced on July 2-27,2012

The MSG was not included as the product label had a “spice blend” ingredient. The MSG was included under that but a review of the label showed that it should have its own category. There have been no reports of health effects from this recall.
