Laptop Lunches are a cute bento-style lunch container for all ages. Their motto is “good simple fun”. While they have many products, we are only looking at the basic bento lunch container. It comes in 11 different colors ranging from pink and girly to dark and sleek. The containers inside are measured to go along with the ChooseMyPlate.gov initiative. The container sizes are:

  • Large open container holding 1 1/8 cups
  • Small open container holding 3/4 cups
  • Large water tight container holding 1 1/2 cups
  • Small water tight container holding 2/3 cups
  • Tiny sauce container holding 1/8 cups

The Visuals

The outer container did not close fully along all the edges. The plastic lifted up at the corners. There are water tight containers that come inside the box so that is not an issue- just don’t put soup in the outer box and expect it to not leak. The best thing about the visuals of the containers is that each part has a space to write the owners name. This is great for kids because no piece would go missing at school.

Our Testing

We gave the laptop lunch a thorough test. I packed my lunch in it the night before and tossed it in my purse to go to work. Nothing leaked or shifted into a new container. The little dip container worked great. I put a creamy dressing in it and packed 3 stalks of celery. There was enough dip for all my vegetables, and it was leak free in the box. Using all of the containers gives a large lunch. I could put a whole sandwich, cut in half, in one of the large boxes. The plastic is thick and sturdy. I accidentally gave it a drop test and it was unharmed. I could not find anywhere in the manual where it says if it is dishwasher and microwave safe- so I tried it myself. The plastic gets really hot in the microwave but it worked. I think it would be best to stick to cold lunches though. It worked great in the dishwasher but I kept it to the top shelf. Nothing warped in either test.

The Cost

Each basic bento lunch box is $23.99. I have spent much more on mediocre products in the past. The plastic is thick and durable so I have no worries about it lasting for years.

The Verdict

Here at the FoodBeat test kitchen, we have been battling to see who will get to keep the lunch box. We all think it’s good value for money and the product is really user friendly. It is a great product for kids, but I could pack an adult lunch in it without any problems. The size is great because you can fit it in a backpack, purse, or briefcase.
