Looking for a cool-down drink with tons of flavor and no sugar? Look no further. 7-Eleven is officially launching a series of low-calorie Slurpees for health-conscious individuals looking to take the heat off without putting on the pounds. The new product will be made with Splenda instead of sugar and will consist of 50% fewer calories compared to classic Slurpees.

“All flavor. No sugar” is the tagline the company is using to target females in their 20′s who are looking to cut calories.

But, as many individuals have pointed out since 7-Eleven announced the new low-cal drinks, Splenda isn’t exactly the healthiest sugar substitute. While Splenda boasts less calories than sugar itself, it contains a significant amount of aspartame, which is almost as equally unhealthy in its own right.

One commenter on the Huffington Post website is angered over the situation, writing “I hate how people think using Splenda is a healthy move. It’s all chemicals and poison!! Why anyone would use Splenda is beyond me. I’m not saying a regular slurpee is at all healthy either, but how about you use raw sugar and just have it in moderation.”

Regardless, a poll on the website asking whether consumers would try the new low-calorie treat reveals that 81% of readers are willing to give it one a try.

7-Eleven will be introducing new flavors each month. The launch will kick-off with the Fanta Sugar-Free Mango flavor, followed by Strawberry Banana in July and Cherry Limeade in August.

In celebration of their new line of drinks, 7-Eleven will be handing out free Slurpees on Wednesday May 23rd (don’t worry, we’ll remind you beforehand)!

Do you think low-calorie Slurpees are a good idea?
